We waited with fingers crossed to see if we would be able to walk to Glengormley fire station. Alas! Strong winds and freezing temperatures meant it would not be safe to do so. But the firefighters came to our rescue and came to Ashgrove instead! They were brilliant. We got to try on their suits, helmets and masks, and we learned so much about their uniforms. Do you know why the shields on their helmets are shiny? We do now! (Heat doesn’t pass through shiny things.) Finally, we saw all the equipment they use, and we got to climb aboard the engine.
