P4's WW2 artefacts

6th Apr 2017

This term, P4 have been learning about WW2 and last week they got the chance to see some actual equipment and uniforms of soldiers, up close.  The Somme Centre in Conlig very kindly allowed us to borrow a British helmet, gas mask, replica rifle and army uniform and our very own Mrs Noble brought in some very special German military equipment that her grandfather received from a German prisoner of war while on duty with the Navy!

The children were fascinated by the equipment and many mentioned how much better made and more comfortable the German equipment was compared to the British equipment. Mia also mentioned how the gas mask smelled like old rubber dog toys and wasn’t surprised nobody wanted to wear them!

Thank you to the Somme Centre and to Mrs Noble!
